STAX SR-007S LAUNCHED

June 23, 2025 5 Min Read

STAX has launched the SR-007S, a new version of the classic SR-007 and 007A, priced at 2,390 USD.

The first SR-007 was launched in 1998 as STAX’s flagship headphone, succeeding the legendary SR-Omega, which debuted in 1993. This initial model is commonly referred to as the SR-007 Mk1. In 2007, STAX introduced the SR-007 Mk2 and the Japanese market version, the SR-007A. The SR-007 Mk2 has remained in production to this day. However, enthusiasts claim to have noted several silent changes, upgrades, or batch variations over the years, resulting in unofficial model designations such as the SR-007 SZ3, Mk2.5, Mk2.7, and SR-007 Mk2.9.

So, enough history… what’s new with the SR-007S?

REDESIGNED HEADBAND

The new headband is a metal construction as the previous models, but no longer covered in leather. The whole structure is redesigned and shares many similarities with the X9000, while the cups clearly retain the classic SR-007 design.

An interesting detail is the new hinge, which unlike the previous SR-007 headphones, allows for significant swivel action and a better fit for those who might need it.

UPDATED DIAPHRAGMS

The SR007S features updated diaphragms.

REDESIGNED ELECTRODES

The redesigned circular fixed electrodes feature a 20% reduction in air vent hole diameter compared to earlier models.

ANTI-RESONANCE TECHNOLOGY

The SR-007S employs a technology called Anti-Resonance Structure (ARS), inspired by the flagship SR-X9000, which aims to reduce unwanted vibrations and improve rigidity for a cleaner sound.

NEW SHEEPSKIN EARPADS

As before, the SR-007S earpads feature a rotating design and are made from premium sheepskin. The newly redesigned inner earpad further refines sound absorption.

DETACHABLE CABLE

Unlike the previous versions of the SR-007, the SR-007S comes with a detachable cable, as seen in all newer STAX models.

CURRENT STAX LINEUP

As of mid 2025, the STAX headphone lineup, or “earspeakers” as STAX prefers to call them, is as follows:

SR-X1 – 535 USD

SR-500 mk2 – 830 USD

SR-700 mk2 – 1650 USD

SR-007S – 2390 USD

SR-009S – 4500 USD

SR-X9000 – 6200 USD
